What is a Team Beachbody coach?

What is a Team Beachbody coach?
  • As a Team Beachbody coach, you help motivate and guide others as you move towards your own fitness goals.
  • As a Team Beachbody coach, you provide guidance and help customers make the best use out of Beachbody’s many online resources and tools.
  • As a Team Beachbody coach, you support your customers in their personal journey to meet their health and fitness goals.
You do not have to be a certified personal trainer, a nutritionist, or a medical expert. You only have to have the desire to get fit and help others do the same!


How much does it cost to be a Team Beachbody coach?

There is a $39.95 start up fee.  (EXCEPTION:  If you have already purchased a Challenge Pack, or you want to sign up by purchasing a Challenge Pack, then the fee is WAIVED, FREE, NO FEE!)  After the first month, there is a monthly $15.95 business service fee that is automatically charged to a credit card kept on file with Team Beachbody. This service fee gives you access to Coach Relations and includes 3 personalized websites (Spanish is available), email and ecard accounts, first class training, and online office tools to manage your growing business.

Do I have to be a club member to be a Team Beachbody coach?

No. You do not have to be a club member to be a Team Beachbody coach, however you are able to better help your customers with navigating the club area, and there are incentive programs that you will qualify for only if you are a club member. You can also use the many tools and resources (trainer tips, caloric needs calculator, meal plans, shopping lists) to help your clients achieve better results.  It only costs about $0.43 a day.


If I become a Beachbody coach, am I still eligible for the daily Super Gym prizes and the monthly Success Story prizes? What about the year end Success Story prizes?

TurboFire Results


SUSAN, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Recently, a friend that I hadn't seen for a while asked, "Wow Susan, you've lost weight, haven't you?! You look great!  What ARE you doing?"  I get so excited when someone asks me that question!  That means I get to talk about my soul-mate workout, TurboFire®!

As I'm writing this post, I'm 48 years old.  I started TurboFire about 18 months ago... I think back to "BT" ("B"efore "T"urboFire).  I used to be fit.  Well, 15-20 years ago I was fit.  As our boys got older and more involved in sports, and our jobs and careers changed and became more stressful, we were always busy.  My job took time out of my day; sports took time out of my evenings and weekends.  Time to exercise?  Time to prepare good food?  No way!  BT, life just got in the way.  BT, Everything else was "more important" than taking time for my own health and fitness.

Every couple of years, I would say THIS IS THE YEAR.  I am going to exercise.  I am going to lose those 5 pounds... those 10 pounds... those 15 pounds... those 20 pounds.  By March of 2012 when I finally QUIT MAKING EXCUSES, I had 22 pounds to lose to reach my goal weight!  The scales just crept up a few pounds every year.  And worse than that, I was physically unfit and honestly, unhealthy.  BT, I couldn't even run a mile!

BT, I "tried" different things to get in shape.  I tried walking - I got bored.  I tried running - I gave up.  I joined a gym - I never went!  Does this sound familiar?  I had to find SOMETHING to get me off this hamster wheel!


I DECIDED CHANGE WAS POSSIBLE!
In a conversation with a fit friend who knew just how crazy-hectic my life was (by the way, her life was just as crazy-hectic and I saw how she always fit her running into her schedule), she mentioned HIIT workouts.  At that point, I had never heard the term HIIT  which stands for High Intensity Interval Training....but I was curious.  That night, google helped me find more information and learn about HIIT - workouts with short intervals of pushing to the max, followed by short intervals of rest...resulting in increased metabolism and the "afterburn" effect.  I could do that!  When I searched for HIIT workouts, guess what appeared at the top of the google search list?  TurboFire!  That little blonde trainer - yes, the one I now know and love as Chalene Johnson! - looked so happy and super-motivating, and someone I would like to workout with in my home every day.  Without hesitation, I clicked to order the TurboFire workout program.

THE WORKOUTS
I took baby steps - I started with the prep schedule, then the regular schedule, then ADVANCED TurboFire!  Wha wha WHAT?  This late 40's mom finishing Advance TurboFire?? YES!  WOO HOO!  I felt good! and what a terrific feeling of accomplishment!  

Chalene Johnson is a natural teacher, and she is passionate about teaching fitness.  Her method of teaching, encouraging and motivating was EXACTLY what I needed. The upbeat music, the variety in the workouts, exercising on my schedule in my own home, the ability to take it with me while traveling, the fitness classroom atmosphere - it was perfect!  I walked away from my daily workouts SMILING, and looking forward to the next day's workout! 

SIX PACK ABS START IN THE KITCHEN
During TurboFire, Chalene Johnson offers daily tips.  One tip that has stuck with me is that no matter how hard I workout, losing body fat starts in the kitchen!  "Your ab work is done in the kitchen! ... You can do crunches all day long, but if you have a layer of fat on top of it, you've got to change what you're eating."  Although I probably knew this down deep, I ignored it!   So, I HAD to change my mindset about eating.  My husband and I read, learned, researched on our own.  And I changed my eating habits. 

I found that the Phase 2 and Phase 3 concepts of The South Beach Diet were sensible and easy for me to follow.  This is the eating plan I adhered to during my weight loss journey, and still follow today.  In general, the higher protein / lower fat protein, whole grains, high fiber, clean-eating concepts are consistent with other research we found on our own.  I adjust my calorie intake based on my workout levels and goals.  It works well for me to have these guidelines to follow.

My favorite food went from french fries to broiled vegetables!  I quit "dieting"; I realized that food is FUEL.  While it is ok for me to enjoy a splurge occasionally, my mindset HAD to change!  I started making choices for clean eating - consistently good choices - and tracked every calorie in and every calorie out.  Tracking my calories was a big key to my success, and it was so easy with a free app on my iPhone.  There are many choices in the market today.  I chose LiveStrong MyPlate app (free!) which synchs with the online site to log my activity, and I used a Polar FT7 monitor to track my workouts / calorie burn.

I was not lucky enough to have someone introduce Shakeology to me until AFTER I met my weight loss goal!  I have no doubt that I would have reached my goal sooner had it been a part of my program from Day 1.  I would have LOVED to have known about it during that time - I was well into my fitness journey and eating plan when I met my Coach online. More than that, I hope my passion about how I FEEL about my transformation is coming through, because even more important to me than the results you can seen on the OUTSIDE, are the results on the INSIDE.  I am more confident.  I am a happier.  I am healthier.  I am a better wife, mother, employee, manager, and business owner.

I will always remember the first time I finished the Fire 55 workout - at the end of the workout during the cool down, I heard Chalene say, "Congratulations, you found your soul mate workout! You found a planet of people....just like you!" - here she is...click to hear yourself! 

I never EVER dreamed I would use the words "SOUL MATE" and "WORKOUT" in the same sentence!  But yes, this was the PERFECT and exact explanation of my relationship with TurboFire, and how it fired up my new love of fitness.  Now, sharing the lifestyle with you is the best way for me to help others - to help you get fit and lead a happy, fulfilling life.

Starting a New Beachbody Workout?


Here are a few things to remember during the first couple of weeks of your new Beachbody workout program.

Get Familiar
Pull out the book and workout calendar, then open up your calendar.  Schedule your workouts for the week in a time slot that you KNOW you can keep. Check out the workouts you will do this week.  You can even pop in the DVD to preview.  Who will you watch in the video?  Will you follow the trainer? the modifier? do you need any equipment? do you have it ready?

Get Rest
Starting a new workout program can make you feel a little more tired than normal since you are probably working different muscle groups in different ways.  Make it a point to go to bed 30 minutes to 1 hour earlier during the first couple of weeks. Getting 7-8 hours of sleep every night will help your body to recover and will give you more energy for your next morning workout!

Get Comfortable
Wear the proper footwear.  For yoga, that means NONE sometimes! For plyometrics and cardio, be sure you have a good training or running shoe for proper support.  You might even try a jump mat, especially if you are in an apartment or upstairs room.

Get Serious
At the end of the first 2 weeks, your body will have adjusted and you will be looking forward to your workouts everyday.  One goal is to create a new habit, so do it every day, and try to workout at the same time every day.  Even on those days when you hear some little voice say "it's ok if you skip today"...DON'T SKIP unless it is your rest day!  Your success is driven by what is between your ears - your body will do what your mind tells it to.

Get Ready
....because you are going to bust through those obstacles.  You are going to reach new goals.  You are going to achieve something that you have not achieved before.  You can do it!

Tips for Eating Better

I must admit it…for years, eating better just didn’t work for me. I think sometimes I may have just pushed too hard. I tried to do it all at once without really planning or doing my homework. Other times I made excuses about how hard it was or that I didn’t have time. I got discouraged and instead of adjusting, I just reverted back to my old, bad habits. 

Here are some tips I’ve learned from my own experience that might help you get on track to creating a lifestyle of good eating habits.

1. Set goals and share them. Take some time to write down what you want to change about your eating. Write down everything you would like to change. Then, break down your goals into bite-sized pieces (no pun intended!). Take 2 or 3 things from that list and focus on those goals THIS WEEK. You don’t have to change everything at once! You did not create bad habits all in one week, so it would be unrealistic to expect you could change them all into good habits in one week! Each week, pull out the list again. Did you accomplish your 2-3 goals this week? GREAT! Check them off, and now, tackle 2-3 more the next week. Before long, you have created new habits in your everyday eating, and every goal you wrote down on that original list is checked off! Sharing your goals also helps – with your spouse, your family, your coworkers. It holds you accountable, and they feel involved and helpful as well.

2. Make it work for you. Be realistic when planning your new diet. It should work for you, your schedule and your budget. Schedule extra time when you have it to pre-cook meals or at least the main dish, pre-pack serving sized snacks (for example, snack sized bags with 20 almonds, bags in the fridge with a mix of sliced veggies, snack size bag of 100 calories of lowfat cheese). Know that curve balls will come your way so you can anticipate how you will react – when you are at the ball game and the team wants to hit your favorite Tex Mex restaurant together afterwards, what will you order? It takes work, and practice. Think ahead – list out healthy foods you enjoy, what you can take with you to work, to your kids practices, to the beach or wherever you are going today. Keep healthy food on hand, or you will be grabbing something that is not a good choice. Be realistic about your plan, but make a plan!

3. Educate yourself. There are many reliable sources in books and magazine, and on the internet, to help you learn about good nutrition. What is Quinoa? Why is whole wheat flour better than white flour? What combination of protein, carbs and fats should I have in a day? One of my favorite resources are the meal planner that comes with your Team Beachbody Club membership at www.teambeachbody.com. My other favorite is www.livestrong.com/food – the FOOD tab is filled with helpful information and articles, and you can search within the site. For example, if you need to better understand why sugar is not good in your diet, just type in SUGAR and voila! It is at your fingertips.

4. Track what you eat. You might think this is overkill or cumbersome, but it is SO EASY to do with an app on your smart phone. I PROMISE…if you do this ONE step consistently, you will have success in improving your eating habits because you will see exactly what you are putting into your body. First step: click here.  Use the Calorie Calculator to help you determine your Daily Calorie Goal. Remember, this goal is the NET calorie intake. Calories eaten less calories burned with exercise = Net Calorie Intake. I use the Livestrong MyPlate app on my iPhone to track all of my eating and exercise. It is a new habit I created about 18 months ago, and this habit has made all the difference for me. Try it!

5. Be consistent. Make a plan and stick with it – your body will respond WELL to consistency, to a new pattern, and your metabolism and energy levels will stay higher. Being consistent also helps you to create new HABITS. You will be amazed at how quickly your habits will change if you apply these helpful hints!

6. Be flexible, and don’t beat yourself up. If you fall down, just get back up and get back on track. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself that you give up just because you make a bad choice, have a bad meal, or have a bad day. It is OK to enjoy foods not on your meal plan occasionally! You are making a change for LIFE, not just for the short term. Sometimes it is these small setbacks that help me learn more about it.

7. Have fun! You can find ways to have fun with your new eating style! Try new recipes. Try new healthier restaurants if you must eat out. Have a summer bbq and share your new healthy recipes. Get your family and friends involved. Surround yourself with people who support your efforts and will have fun trying new things with you! Your positive attitude and influence will be contagious!

Most important, remember that you are creating a new lifestyle! You are changing your LIFE, and as much as you would like to wave the magic wand and have it happen overnight, it just won’t! Follow these tips, praise yourself along the way. Take pride in how far you have come. Before too long, you will have created new habits for eating better!
